NEET Results and Recent Controversies

Since the declaration on June 4th, NEET Result controversy has surrounded the results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test  2024. While some celebrate the achievements of toppers, many aspiring medical students are questioning the fairness of the entire process. Let’s delve into the key issues sparking outrage.

Controversies Surrounding NEET Result

Several students and parents have raised concerns about irregularities in the examination process. Allegations of question paper leaks, discrepancies in answer key evaluations, and technical glitches during the online application process have surfaced.

  • Perfect Scores and Oddities: A record-breaking 67 students secured a perfect 720, raising eyebrows. Additionally, scores like 718 and 719, seemingly impossible based on the marking scheme, have added fuel to the fire.

  • Textbook Errors and “Grace Marks”: The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for the exam, awarded “grace marks” to some students for an erroneous physics question in an older NCERT textbook. However, critics argue this unfairly benefits a specific group.

  • Compensatory Marks and Time Discrepancies: The NTA also awarded compensatory marks to candidates who faced time constraints at certain exam centers. While aimed at fairness, concerns remain about the method used to determine these marks.

  • Question Paper Leak Allegations: Rumors of a question paper leak surfaced before the exam. Though the NTA denies any concrete evidence, many students believe it compromised the integrity of the test.

  • Suspicious Timing and Legal Challenges:  The NTA declared the results ten days earlier than usual, coinciding with the Lok Sabha election results. This timing has led to accusations that the NTA is trying to bury the controversy. Various High Courts and the Supreme Court have received petitions challenging the results and demanding a re-exam.

The Calcutta High Court has taken note, demanding an explanation from the NTA regarding alleged irregularities. The apex court, however, has rejected a plea to stay the results. It remains to be seen what the final verdict on the matter will be and whether there will be a re-examination. ,
